Following Monday night’s regular meeting the Knoxville City Council went into a closed session to further discuss contract negotiations with the City’s labor union. As a result of the meeting, the council approved a two year contract for city employees that includes a one percent pay increase for the upcoming fiscal year, followed by a one and a half percent increase for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. City Manager Dick Schrad says the council was not extremely comfortable with these increases as they would have preferred a zero or one percent increase. However, Schrad says the other alternative would have been going into arbitration which likely would have cost the city even more money.
