Part of President Obama’s budget proposal that was announced this week includes a decrease in the funding of Pell Grants. Currently, full time students who qualify can receive up to $5,550 in federal aid. Terri Crumley, Director of Admissions at Central College says that number would decrease by $845 to a total of $4,705 in the President’s budget. She says 33% of Central College students receive the grants, and the number of people who qualify is rising given current economic conditions. Crumley says when money is pulled away from things like Pell grants, a student’s opportunity at the American dream is also pulled away.
