The Pella Christian girls’ soccer team was held scoreless for the second consecutive night, as
Indianola blanked the Eagles 4-0.
Indianola scored just five minutes into the game, to take a 1-0 half-time lead. Three second-half goals gave Indianola the final 4-0 margin. Shelby Sytsma led the Eagle defense with 29 defensive stops. Karianne Bolt (24 stops), Kayla Groenendyk (23 stops) and Kylie Lamb (21 stops) also had outstanding defensive play.
Goalkeeper Abbey DeBruin made 13 saves in the game.
“This was a frustrating game for us,” noted Eagle Coach Bill Collman. “Our offense couldn’t
get anything going and that put all the pressure on our defense. The girls played hard through
the whole game.” The Eagles return to action Saturday as they participate in the S.E. Polk
tournament.
The Eagles’ junior varsity squad dropped a 2-1 decision to Indianola. Indianola opened the
game’s scoring with a goal at the 28:09 mark of the first half. Bri Warden then tied the game
at 36:00 before Indianola scored the game-winning goal with only one minute remaining in
the game. Trisha Fopma led the Eagle defense with 23 defensive stops. Bre Sytsma had 22
stops and Taylor Pinegar had 21 stops. Goalkeeper Brittney Pingel recorded 16 goal saves.
