Of all the popular culinary treats Pella is known for, the staple bologna is one easily recognized the world over. Jake Rietveld of Ulrich’s Meat Market in Pella says they’ll go through nearly 3,000 pounds of bologna over the course of Tulip Time. He says the market begins preparing about a month in advance, mixing, wrapping and smoking their product. Rietveld says the market gets customers from all over the world during Tulip Time, including Holland who tell him their product matches up with anything from Europe.
