Knoxville Public Works Director Jeff May tells KNIA/KRLS that Main Street between 4th Street and 7th Street closed late Thursday afternoon for an emergency sewer repair between 5th Street and 6th Street. Wastewater crews pumped all night and into Friday and the contractor began repairs Friday. Once the repairs are completed the pavement will be replaced. The closing may last up to 2 to 3 weeks depending on the extent of the sewer main replacement. Interim city manager Dan Losada says that an 18 inch pipe became obstructed, but fortunately city crews identified the problem, were able to bypass the obstruction quickly, and no homes or business have been impacted.
