Oral presentations by those seeking the Enhanced Use Lease of the Knoxville VA campus are being made in Washington DC today. Three proposals have been made public so far, one for a Veterans National Recovery Center submitted by Bob Krause and a mixed use proposal from the Kowalenko Consulting group from Chicago. A third proposal is by a group headed by James Washington of Knoxville. Washington told KNIA/KRLS news earlier this week that part of his mixed use proposal includes two schools, including California Miramar University. Washington, owner of Knoxville Manufacturing, and former President of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, says that he is optimistic regarding the chances of his proposal, saying that he believes that his group has prepared a very competitive one. The selection of the group to obtain the Enhanced Use Lease will occur in June, and the Veterans administration hopes to have the property transferred by October.
