The Pella Christian baseball team gets its first crack at a Little Hawkeye Conference opponent this week, something the team is looking forward to as they try to make a run at a league title.
Eagles Head Coach Brad Rolffs says the team put itself in position to challenge for the crown last season, and likes where they stand in 2011.
“We were in the run for the conference championship last year until about two-thirds of the way through the season, and we’d like to be in there again.  We think we have the pitching and the team to do it this year,” says Rolffs.
Rolffs ads that there will be plenty of challenges, though, as the Little Hawkeye Conference will be very competitive this season.
“Knoxville’s always going to be a tough game – they’re always going to run out a good team, no matter what.  Norwalk is always tough, Oskaloosa’s good some really good athletes playing baseball over there, and Grinnell has some good young guys coming up. Also Pella [High] continues to get better every single year, so there’s going to be some hard-fought games in the conference this season, but we like our chances.”
The Pella Christian baseball team is off to a 3-0 start and travels to Huxley this evening to take on the Ballard Bombers.
