A new Iowa gun law has a large number of Marion County residents signing up for a weapons permit. Almost 1000 people have received a weapons permit in Marion County this year, up from just over 300 at this point last year. For the entire 2010 calendar year, Marion County issued 621 weapons permits. They reached that number on March 24 this year. Iowa is now a “Shall Issue” state, meaning anyone that meets the conditions in the law can receive a weapons permit. Previously, county sheriffs had more discretion on who could or couldn’t receive one.
