Knoxville took a double header sweep of Grinnell last night by scores of 2-1 and 11-6. The first game was a classic pitcher’s duel with Eric Jones getting the win. Knoxville scored in the bottom of the sixth then held on in the seventh for the win. The second game had a little bit of everything. From Grinnell batting out of order to a 15 minute rain delay. After it was all over with Knoxville had turned in an 11-to-six victory. Grinnell looked as if the Tigers would blow it open early by plating three runs on a single, hit batsman and a two R-B-I double followed later by an R-B-I ground out. Knoxville would put the clamps on with Kellen Glover settling down to allow just one hit the rest of the time he was one the mound. Knoxville got three runs of its own in the first when Lance Daugherty clubbed his second home run of the season to tie the game at three, then Kellen Glover helped his own cause by bombing a two run blast to right field to make it 5-3. After the rain delay Knoxville would plate runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Coach Steve Mott says the hitting is getting better. He adds the guys need to continue to be patient with the whole process. Lance Daughtery had three R-B-I on one swing of the bat, Kellen Glover who also picked up the win in game two had two R-B-I. He worked four innings giving up five runs on four hits and three walks with no strikeouts. Bryant McWilliams and Lance Daugherty pitched in relief. Justin Katich also had a good night at the plate in game two going two-for-three with an R-B-I. Knoxville is now 9-9 on the season and even up at 6-6 on the Little Hawkeye Conference.
