A large severe thunderstorm hit Marion County last night. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action team went live at around 9:45 last night, giving listeners information about the storm until the Severe Thunderstorm Warning expired at 11:10. The most dangerous part of the storm was extremely strong winds. The Pella Airport reported up to 73 mile per hour gusts, and the Knoxville Airport reported 62 mile per hour winds. The winds brought down multiple branches and some trees across the county. There were also reports of dime-sized hail in some areas. Mid-American Energy reports that power was out for at least 100 customers across Marion County last night, and as of 5:35, it remains out for 59 customers. As of four am, all creeks and rivers in Marion County were within their banks, though they are rising and some are expected to rise past flood stage. Yesterday, Knoxville saw 1.2 inches of rain, bringing June’s total to 13.12, breaking the previous record for the most rain through 26 days in June, which was set in 1935. The record for overall rainfall in June is 13.8 inches, set last year.
