Marion County is getting an upgrade for their Beacon service starting Monday. The Beacon gives citizens 24/7 access to a variety of local government data, like geographic, appraisal, and tax information. The upgrade will help the map engine to support all modern map services, as well as making it easily adaptable to future services. Bill Buttrey, the Web Coordinator for Marion County, says that some of the more exciting features of the upgrade include the ability to mark up the maps on the computer screen as well as the ability to save portions of the map as a file. Buttrey says that there may be glitches to the Beacon service as they upgrade, but that’s pretty normal working with computers. He doesn’t expect any to be significant or serious.
