A preliminary hearing is set for today for Jeremy Smith, of Centerville, in Iowa District Court. In June 2010, Smith was driving on the 1700 block of T-17 with two passengers, David Burton, of Exline, and Curtis Temple, Jr., of Centerville. Smith was allegedly driving northbound in the southbound lane when he collided with a vehicle going southbound driven by Amanda Brigman, of Oskaloosa. Smith was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance at the time. The accident resulted in the deaths of Burton and Temple, and left Brigman with a serious injury.
Smith has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, and one count of serious injury by vehicle. The preliminary hearing is set for 9:30am.
