First responders from all over the county, representative at least three branches of the military, representatives of Congressmen Loebsack and Boswell, the city of Knoxville, the American Legion, AMVETS, the VFW, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the Patriot Guard Riders, and approximately 250 citizens in the audience gathered at Ken Locke Stadium in Knoxville yesterday in a memorial service to remember and honor the memory of those who fell ten years ago on 9/11. Music was provided by Katie Davis and friends and the Knoxville High School Choir. Knoxville Paramedic Specialist and Firefighter Greg Higginbotham explained the custom of the tolling of the bells for those who have fallen. Five bells, a pause, five bells, a pause, and five bells.
Knoxville Fire Chief Mike Roberts remembered that he felt helpless as he watched the tragedy of 9/11 unfold ten years ago, and added why he no longer feels helpless. Click below to hear the full story.
