The Knoxville Football Squad put together its strongest performance of the season but churning up 453 yards of offense, however the Panthers fell for the sixth straight time this season to Newton last night 31-23. Knoxville was able to run at will against the Cardinals but 93 yards in penalties many of the most inopportune times of the game handicapped the Panthers on many of their drives. Coach Troy Rider said the offense could not be stopped unless they stopped themselves. The Panthers got on the board first with a 29 yard field goal by Erik Ryan but 28 unanswered points by Newton opened the game up. However Knoxville would get a touchdown with no time remaining in the first half to cut the lead to 28/ten at the break. A field goal was the only score Newton had in the second half as Bryant McWilliams connected with Dylan Crouse for touchdowns of 34 and 20 yards in the fourth quarter to get Knoxville closer. The Panthers were led on the ground by Colton Spaur who gashed the Cardinals for 125 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown while McWilliams’s aerial assault resulted in nine connections for 225 yards two scores and an interception, Crouse hauled 125 yards on five catches. Knoxville is now 0-6 on the season and falls to 0-4 in Class 3A District Eight play, the Panthers return home one final time next Friday to host Saydel.
