A burn ban has been put into effect for the City of Knoxville. A statement released by the Knoxville Police Department says that the ban includes all outdoor fires, including burn barrels. The statement says dry conditions and expected high winds make all fires high risk.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. Anyone found in violation is subject to a fine and costs for extinguishing the fire.

In addition, Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat has announced that it is the decision of the majority of Marion County Fire Chiefs, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Emergency Management to implement a burn ban in rural areas of the county effective immediately as well. The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. The one to count on for the most up to date news and information is KNIA/KRLS.
