With the top seed in the upcoming playoffs firmly in hand, the Pella High football team still has something left to shoot for tonight, when they host Fort Madison in the final regular season game of the season. The Little Dutch have an opportunity to close out the Class 3A District 7 schedule with a perfect 7-0 mark, and end the schedule as the undisputed District champions.

Pella head coach Jay McKinstrey says that’s something that the coaching staff and players would really like to accomplish, and says a strong performance tonight will only give his team additional momentum heading into the postseason.

“We’ve got a shot to be 7-0 in our district, and that doesn’t happen very often. I think in our time here as a coaching staff it’s happened three times. We’re very thankful for those times it’s happened in our fifteen years together as a coaching staff,” says McKinstrey.

“It’s hard. I don’t care what district you’re in; to finish unbeaten is very difficult. This would be quite an accomplishment for our guys and be really exciting for them.”

Fort Madison is 1-5 in District play. Tonight’s game between the Little Dutch and the Bloodhounds will be streamed live at kniakrls.com, with Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema providing the coverage, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
