For the second straight year, Knoxville raised the most funds in the state during their Coaches vs Cancer game this past February. The Knoxville basketball programs were recently honored for that achievement at an Iowa Basketball Coaches’ Association meeting.
Knoxville Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach Jim Uitermarkt says that over $24,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society, the most in the entire Midwest. Uitermarkt says it’s “awesome” how many people have gotten behind the fundraiser and support it. He says he’s very proud of the involvement of the community and the leadership roles athletes have taken for the event.
The 2012 Coaches vs Cancer game will be held Saturday, January 21.
