The Knoxville Rural Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Bureau. The $3500 matching grant, which was matched by Knoxville Township, will be used to help protect Knoxville Township citizens and their property from wildfires by providing funds for wildfire suppression equipment, personal protective equipment, and communications equipment. Knoxville Township was one of over 100 rural communities in Iowa to receive such a grant, which were given in cooperation with the US Forest Services – State and Private Forestry. Over $240,000 was given in all.
