Pella is attempting to become a Blue Zone Demonstration Community. Blue Zones are a part of Governor Terry Branstad’s Healtiest State Initiative. Being selected as a Blue Zone would mean a boost in state funding, and expert help to craft a blueprint to help transition locals to healthier behaviors. There will be three or four communities selected to be Blue Zones in 2012, with more to be selected in following years.
