Since dropping their first two games of the season against very strong non-conference competition, the Pella High girls basketball team has rattled off five straight victories – most recently a 61-28 throttling of Newton last Tuesday.

At least part of the recent success for the Lady Dutch can be attributed to the increased offensive production from players like Bailey Vande Weerd, Katie Sunderman, Madeline Meyer, Kim Korver and Maddy Scholten.  Pella head coach Jerod Garland says the additional offense has been a great compliment to the inside prowess of forward Regan Cooper.

“Regan’s been so consistent, but we’ve had other girls with eight, ten, even sixteen points. Bailey’s had some real strong games; and Katie, Madeline, Kim and Maddy have all played well in specific games too,” said Garland.

“It’s been fun to see who that’s going to be, and it doesn’t always have to be the same person each night, but you hope to get a little consistency. I think as shooting starts to improve, hopefully you’ll see more outside shooting from us too.

Cooper leads the Pella High girls with an average of 16.7 points and 14 rebounds per game, but Vande Weerd has also upped her scoring average to 8.2 points per game, while Sunderman in clicking along at 7.5 points per contest.
