Yesterday the blood drive to honor Megan Hoogaveen took place. Megan was a student at Pella Christian High School who died of a rare blood disorder in June. People came out all afternoon to donate blood, and in the evening remembered Megan as part of a candlelight vigil. According to Megan’s Mother Teresa Schippers the event’s goal of collecting 120 units of blood was surpassed, with a great turnout: Over 150 people signed up for the blood drive. With the success of the event, Teresa says she would like it to become annual. The event was scheduled to coincide with what would have been Megan’s 19th birthday.
