At the onset of the season, Pella High boys basketball coach Mark Core said the five players on the floor for the Little Dutch at the end of a game was far more significant than the first five out for the beginning of a game.  Five weeks into the season, Core says he’s comfortable with any player on his team closing out a contest on any given night.

“We really feel like we’ve got a team full of finishers.  We run a “two-minute drill” pretty much every night [in practice] where we put a time and score on the scoreboard and we finish out the last two minutes of a ballgame,” said Core.

“Our guys, hopefully over the course of a season full of practice, will get used to being in that position of being on the floor in the last two minutes and having to make plays that decide the outcome of a game.”

The Pella High boys basketball team is 3-2 overall, with their only losses coming in non-conference play.  They’ll host Oskaloosa on Tuesday night as the Little Hawkeye Conference schedule resumes.
