In what has become a disappointing trend this season, the Central College women’s basketball team started strong, but saw their lead dwindle late in the first half and never recovered; falling to Cornell College 62-55 Saturday afternoon in Pella.  Sarah Paulson and Rachel Evans each scored 10 points apiece to pace the Central offense, and Paulson also had a team-best six rebounds.  The loss drops the Dutch to 5-16 overall, and leaves them still searching for their first conference win of the season.

The men’s game saw Demarco Turner’s hot hand put the Dutch out front quickly and the white-and-red never took their foot off the gas pedal; crushing Cornell 83-50.  Turner hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points, while Jack Bruns and Kevin Kaerwer provided plenty of support with 14 points each.  The win snaps a six-game Iowa Conference losing skid for the Dutch; putting them at 6-6 in league play and 14-7 overall.

Both Central basketball teams head to Dubuque on Wednesday to face Loras College.
