The Knoxville City Council gave city staff direction to start the formal process of passing the budget after Friday evening’s special session. The Council asked city staff to remove two new revenue generators that they had discussed. One was an “in lieu of taxes” payment for non-profits such as churches. Another was a business license fee that was in city code, but never enforced. The Council asked that the code language be altered so it doesn’t cover every business in the city. City Manager Harold Stewart said that their final reserves after those changes would be around $107,000-$108,000.
