Though it appeared that luck was not on the side of the Melcher-Dallas boys basketball team this season, the Saints do have some good fortune to be thankful for as they enter the off-season: youth. Melcher-Dallas had no seniors on this season’s roster, so plans are for everyone to be back for the 2012-13 season, and that gives the Saints a lot to look forward to. Head Coach Jim Wells says even more exciting was the desire of his team to immediately start working on becoming a better ball club.

“We got to talking about what we want to do in the offseason and how much the guys wanted to play, and they suggested to me that we practice every Sunday afternoon,” said Wells. “They’re willing to put in some time this summer to get better, and that was good to see.”

Melcher-Dallas was bitten by the injury bug this season, but was boosted by the return of Kenneth Waddle to pick up all five of their wins after the holiday break; highlighted by beating Seymour for a third time this season in the opening round of the Class 1A District Tournament. Five juniors made up this year’s Saints roster, and will be looked to for leadership in the coming months to try and prepare for a successful campaign next school year.
