Similar to December, Iowa’s unemployment rate declined in January, but the number of jobless workers in Marion County increased slightly last month. Data from Iowa Workforce Development shows that unemployment increased in the county by a non-seasonally adjusted point eight percent between December and January to 6.1% percent. Statewide the seasonally adjusted rate went down over the same period, to 5.4% percent. Nationally the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.3%.
