If you think you’ve seen more fire trucks buzzing around the county lately, you’re probably right. Knoxville Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News that they have responded to at least seven grass fires in the past week. The dry, windy conditions are a contributing factor. Thompson recommends against burning right now. He says if you are going to burn, you need to be very cautious. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom adds that when burning, selecting a safe spot is key, and you should never leave a fire unattended.
