Four Knoxville fifth graders have been selected to move onto the second round of Invent Iowa. Nate Finarty, Caleb Hall, Chase Carter, and Mickayla McGill all had their inventions selected by the Belin Blank Center to move on to round two. Those students must create and submit a short DVD presentation of their invention. If selected to move out of round two, they will continue to the State Merit Scholarship Competition in May. Six students at the state competition will win a 500 dollar scholarship.
Knoxville teacher Jean Brandt, who organizes and supervises the children that participate in Invent Iowa in Knoxville, says that all the students are very excited. The students must turn in the second round materials by April 2nd. Invent Iowa is a competition where students create an invention to solve an everyday problem. It encourages students to think creatively and solve problems through the invention process.
