The Knoxville City Council awarded bids for a number of public works projects last night. The 2012 City Paving Contract and Sidewalk Contract were awarded to TK Concrete of Pella. Both of those bids came in under the budgeted amount. Demolition contracts to dilapidated houses that the city has acquired were spilt between TK Concrete, Davis Excavation of Knoxville, and Savage Dirt Works of Chariton.

The Council also heard a presentation from a Mid-American representative as they get set to create a new franchise that includes a 5% franchise fee. The Mid-American rep told the council such a fee would increase the average Knoxville customer’s bill by 50 dollars.

The Council approved refinancing about 1.25 million dollars worth of bonds. The low bids were a combined bid of Bankers Bank of Madison and Iowa State Savings Bank in Knoxville, and the representative from PFM says that the actual savings would be between $77,000 and $81,000.

Finally, Knoxville Mayor Don Zoutte proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Knoxville. He is pictured above with a member of Crisis Intervention Services.
