With the June primaries less than two months away, local political elections are heating up and people are showing their preference with signs in their yards. In most communities, including Knoxville and Pella, those signs are not allowed to be placed in the right-of-way between the sidewalk and the street. In the county, the right-of-way is usually defined by field fences and power poles.
Knoxville Community Services Officer Arlene Worrall says that they haven’t had much issue with political signs yet this spring. She does note that in yards without a sidewalk, the right-of-way is generally defined as the area between the curb and where a sidewalk would be. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada adds that you should make sure that signs aren’t in sight lines at intersections as well.
