The hard frosts over the past few days may have seriously damaged the grape crop at Tassel Ridge Winery vineyards in Leighton, among other vineyards across the state. Steve Richardson, Vineyard Manager at Tassel Ridge tells KNIA/KRLS News that the frosts have hit the Marquette vines the hardest, and that they may have lost 40-50% of the crop. Dr. Paul Domoto, ISU Extension Office Specialist for fruit crops says that although colder temperatures were to the north, southern grapes may have been damaged more because buds were more developed. The full impact of the damage may not be known for a few weeks.
