After the Pella City Council Meeting Tuesday night, the council held a policy and planning session to discuss the Back to Brick Program. The council is interested in making Washington and Franklin around the square brick, along with some of the alleys near the square. But new bricks are lighter and don’t last as long on roadways. To get the old bricks needed for this program, some other brick streets will need to be “harvested”. the primary candidate for this is W. 1st Street. But the Pella Historic Trust doesn’t want to see that brick road removed, saying it hurts the old charm of the town. The Council will discuss the issue further with city staff and the Historic Trust Board at a future meeting.
