The Knoxville City Council will hold a public hearing next Monday as they consider rezoning portions of the VA Campus. City Manager Harold Stewart tells KNIA/KRLS that as the full lease gets closer to being signed, the Knoxville Veterans Alliance has requested some parts of the campus to be rezoned now so tenants can accomplish what they need to do as soon as they can. Included in that is the old condos and the child care center on the south side of Pleasant Street, which will become a temporary shelter for homeless veterans. On the north side of Pleasant, Stewart says some small parts will be rezoned from residential to manufacturing. Eventually, Stewart says the city will create an entirely new zoning category that will cover residential, commercial, and industrial usage on the campus.
