The Knoxville Library is kicking off fundraising campaigns as part of their expansion project. Pennie Sommar, one of the organizers of the fundraising campaigns, tells KNIA/KRLS News that the efforts will begin soon at Hy-Vee and Fareway. At both stores, customers will be asked if they wish to donate a dollar to the library expansion project when they check-out. She also says that the project information and donation forms will be sent out with water bills in the near future. The Library needs to raise $132,500 by the end of the summer to buy the Dixie Gebhardt house, which is considered a large part of their overall expansion project. Earlier this year, they received a grant totaling $45,000 over three years from the Knoxville Heritage Community Foundation. The overall expansion project is estimated at around $4 million right now.
