Knoxville Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson says that he thought they were going to lose the house when he arrived on scene at the fire Thursday night southeast of Knoxville. The fire started in a garage adjacent to the house, with flames visible all the way out to Bussey. Thompson called out for help immediately as the Knoxville Rural Fire Department started fighting the flames. He credits the quick response of surrounding agencies for keeping the fire from becoming even more severe than it was. He adds it was about the best result you could have asked for in that moment. Thompson thanks all of the area fire departments and first responders on scene as well the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, who helped control traffic through the combination of smoke and dust that kept parts of Oregon Drive barely visible initially. There were no injuries; however, the owners of the property say that their two dogs did die in the blaze.
