A large farm south of Knoxville will be featured in a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day this evening. James and Julie Petersen have been successfully raising both organic and conventional crops for nearly a decade on their 2400-acre farm. James says they thought the field day would be a nice way to showcase the operation and to help others learn ways to make it work. The Petersens will discuss, among other topics, ways to manage weeds, prevent crop co-mingling, and cow-calf and ewe production. The field day is free and is being sponsored by the Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District. It runs from 4-7pm with a lamb supper at 6:30. The Petersen farm is located at 907 Quebec St, south and slightly west of Knoxville. For more information, call 891-7490.
