4th of July celebrations today kick off at the Sully Freedom Fun Run. There will be a one mile race, 5k, and several age divisions of kids’ runs. The races start at 8am. Pella’s July 4th activities have been cancelled due to the heat, but there are still recreation opportunities in the area, including a Geocaching course and paddling activity at Lake Red Rock. Pella’s fireworks will be launched at 9:30, on the east side of town near Madison Elementary School. The Vermeer Windmill Celebrates its 10th anniversary on July 4th as well. They will hold visiting hours from 10-2pm. Rich Glendening, on the anniversary committee, says that the idea for the windmill started with Harry Vermeer after he and his family visited the Netherlands. Government offices as well as Post Offices will be closed for the holiday.
