A 13-year-old Knoxville boy has been charged with reckless use of fire after a fire broke out at the Auld Park playground Friday night. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says a neighbor reported the fire Friday. As firefighters arrived on scene, Losada says they were able to stop a group of individuals that were headed away from the scene. The fire was put out with minimal damage to the playground equipment. Losada says after conservations with several individuals, they believe that the boy they charged allegedly started the fire with a firework. He adds that it’s not clear yet whether it was intentional or not. Chief Losada notes that with the heat and lack of rain we’ve had recently, it’s very easy for a firework to catch anything on fire. He recommends that no one use fireworks until after we’ve received a good amount of rain.
