On Tuesday, Governor Terry Branstad held a meeting in Mount Pleasant to talk about the drought, which is reported to be the worst in 25 years. The USDA reports that less than 38% of the corn crop is in good to excellent condition. A Pella farmer, Dennis Bogarts, who is on the Board of Directors for the American Soybean Association attended the meeting in Mount Pleasant. He says the meeting shows the government is working on the problem and trying to help farmers. He says in Pella, there is good potential for a crop harvest, although it will be below normal amounts.
