The National Weather Service reports another prolonged heat wave is forecast this weekend and through the middle of next week, with most areas experiencing the hottest temperatures on Tuesday. Highs across Iowa will generally be in the lower 90s northeast to lower 100s south and southwest over the next several days. Heat indices may climb into the low to mid 100s in the afternoons and evenings, with overnight temperatures remaining in the 70s and 80s providing little relief from the daytime heat. Isolated thunderstorms are also expected over northern Iowa at times through Tuesday, with more widespread thunderstorm chances across the state from late Wednesday through Thursday, but severe weather appears unlikely at this time.
