Because of the drought, the USDA has allowed for the release of Conservation Reserve Program acres to be grazed. Marion County FSA Director Angie Vos says that producers can come into the office to apply for those releases right now. She notes that the office is also taking applications for haying those acres, which would be allowed beginning August 2nd.
Vos adds that the rules as she explained them last Saturday on KNIA/KRLS’s Farming Today still stand, except for producers will not be capped on the price they are allowed to lease the land at. That program is embedded in this story. Be sure to listen to KNIA/KRLS tomorrow morning just after 7:30, when Farming Today airs. This Saturday, Vos will explain the rules surrounding the haying of CRP acres.
