The Monroe Post Office will be taking over the administrative duties of several other rural Post Offices in the area. It’s part of a plan from the United States Postal Service, which along with shortened hours at some locations, will save the Postal Service over $1 billion annually. Richard Watkins, USPS Spokesman, says that they haven’t decided which offices will have their administrative duties transferred to another office, because many of their post masters retired this year, and their replacements will need to decide if they can support those extra duties. Hours aren’t set yet either, the USPS will be posting times for community meetings regarding hours preferences in the fall. Watkins says most offices won’t see a drastic reduction in hours.
