A Fairfield man died Thursday afternoon after an accident in Mahaska County between Knoxville and Oskaloosa. According to Iowa State Patrol, 23-year-old Derrikk Crawford was eastbound on Highway 92 when his Jeep Liberty crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound semi-truck. The accident occurred just east of the county line. Crawford was transported to Mahaska County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mahaska County Sheriff Paul DeGeest says Highway 92 was closed for four hours to clean up the accident. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch, and the semi jackknifed as well. The semi driver was uninjured. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Mahaska Rural Fire, and Iowa Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
