Knoxville Nationals week was a very busy yet rewarding time at the Knoxville Fire Department. Interim Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham says they never had to use the Mercy ambulance that they were borrowing for the week, though they did come close quite a few times. He says that Wednesday and Saturday were especially busy, with ambulances being run almost constantly.
Higginbotham adds that the Fire Department’s Nationals feed may have been their most successful-to-date. He says that they had a steady stream for more than two hours. They were so busy, he says, that many people had to wait for tables to clear before they began eating. The Nationals feed money goes to the Fire/Rescue Association. Higginbotham says that money helps pay for uniforms and shirts within the department, as well as meals during meetings. He says that these types of things act as a bonus and a thank you for all the volunteers in the department.
