Another item on the docket on Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting is the school resource officer position. The Knoxville School Board approved moving forward with the position last week. It calls for a police officer to work 40 hours a week at the schools in Knoxville during the school year. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says that the position is one that was well-received in the school district for a number of years. They eliminated the position a few years back because of budget cuts, but Dr. Flack says that he and others are happy to be able to bring back that resource to the schools. The position is being funded partially through a grant awarded to the Knoxville Police Department. Police Chief Dan Losada says that he expects to fill the position in December or January.
