Marion County’s unemployment rate has risen slightly since June. It is now at 4.9%, a .1% increase, though the rate has fallen over .5% since last year in July. Iowa’s unemployment rate has risen since June as well. The rate is currently sitting at 5.3%, up from 5.1% in June. The jobless rate is still lower than it was one year ago when 6% of Iowans were without jobs, 125,000 more jobs have opened up since last year. Iowa is still ahead of the national average. Jobless rates are at an 8.3% average across the country.
