With some rains hitting the area in August, including nearly 2 inches last weekend, yards in the area are starting to turn green again. But some of the grass died during the drought, leaving many lawns with patches of dead grass that will need to be reseeded. Sheryl Nunnikhoven at Dutch Meadows Landscaping says now is the time to re-seed lawns. She says you can tell if your grass is actually dead, not dormant, by the color. Dormant grass has a golden brown color and does not need to be re-seeded, but if the grass is grey in color, it is dead. She says to rake the area clear of debris before sowing new seeds, and to make sure the seeds have enough moisture when they are first put in the ground.
