The Pleasantville volleyball team gave fans everything they could hope for in a rivalry match, including a thrilling fourth-game victory, but ultimately fell short in a 3-2 loss to Martensdale-St. Mary’s Tuesday night.

The Trojans found themselves in an early 0-2 hole, after dropping the first two games 25-17 and 25-12. With their backs against the wall and looking like they might be done for, coach Amy Updegraff’s squad responded with a 25-22 win to keep the match rolling. Pleasantville then turned in an exciting 28-26 win in game four to force a decisive fifth set; but ran out of gas down the stretch in a 15-7 loss to allow the Blue Devils to snag the win.

The Pleasantville volleyball team is 0-3 overall. They’ll travel to Nodaway Valley on Thursday.
