Cross country teams from five of our local schools take to the course at the Gateway Golf Course in Monroe for the PCM Mustang Invitational today. Along with runners from the host school, the meet will also feature teams and individuals from Knoxville, Pella Christian, Pleasantville and Twin Cedars.

In an interview featured in Wednesday night’s Marion County PM Sports Page on KNIA/KRLS Radio, Pella Christian sophomore Jake Lensing said the course in Monroe provides a terrain that he and his teammates think can be an advantage for them.

“We really like hills. It sounds like it’s bad, but they keep a change of pace so you can go faster or slower,” said Lensing. “[Gateway] is really hilly and I can usually get a good time there.”

The first race at today’s PCM Mustang Invitational gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
