The Marion County Board of Supervisors talked about the future of the Bussey Memorial Building during their regular meeting yesterday morning. Bussey mayor Larry Pinegar and a couple of memorial building commissioners talked about options moving forward with the board. The board approved hiring a structural engineer to give an assessment on the condition of the building, though it’s expected that the building will not prove to be salvageable without significant expense. If the county closes the building, some services will have to be moved elsewhere in town, such as the site for senior meals as well as a storage site for items like wheelchairs or beds. It’s expected that the new Bussey Community Center could handle the senior meals, though some renovations may need to be made to accommodate the program. The county also has plans to use a building they have in Bussey to help alleviate those storage concerns. That building is being used currently by the Twin Cedars school district as a maintenance facility for their busses after their bus barn burned down earlier this year. They already have started construction on a new one.
